Futsal sessions will be held on Friday mornings (7:30am) at Samford Community Hall (next to Samford State School).
Starting at 7:30 and finishing at 8:30am, kids will then be escorted across to the school gates (for those kids attending Samford State School).
The term will run from the 6th February through to the 27th March (8 weeks) prior to the Easter Holidays.
Please note sessions are for U10-U12 age groups only, and numbers are limited given space requirements.
Futsal (or indoor football) is game loved by millions around the world. The high intensity compact nature of the game helps players develop core technical skills with lots of touches on the ball. Sessions will be heavily game focused within a fun environment, allowing kids to express themselves with the ball whilst having lots of fun!
Applications for Committee positions to be filled at the 2025 AGM on the 9th of November have now closed.
Two full weeks of tournaments in the school holidays!
· The MCE Cup
· The Football Queensland Junior Cup
· Football Queensland Winterfest
· The Football Queensland State Tournament
· The North Star invitational
It’s been a mammoth couple of weeks with more than 50 games of football being played across our teams involved in tournaments, sometimes lasting over 12-hour days. It was SRFC’s inaugural invite to the FQ hosted Junior and Winterfest competitions (reserved for Tier 1 clubs), and we certainly demonstrated why we should be there!
This wouldn’t have been possible without the support and commitment of the families supporting their players and teams and our wonderful coaches and managers. It was also great to see everyone supporting the different SRFC teams, when they weren’t on the pitch themselves!! There was lots of positivity and staying true to the SRFC culture and respecting our values. Certainly, some lifelong core memories were created for our players. So truly, a massive thank you to all involved across the 2 weeks for helping make it special for the players.
Tournaments
The MCE Cup 28 June U8-12’s, is a privately run competition by Moreton City Excelsior at Brendale, where we were able to enter a mix of SRFC FQ Academy and community boys U10, 11, 12 teams. Rescheduled from bad weather in April, SRFC came up against some tough opposition in the group phases.
· U10B finished with a strong 3-0 win. The first two games they played well and had very close losses.
· U11B played well throughout each of their games, worth noting that this team is one of the most improving group of players in the club at the moment, and this was the first tournament for a few of the team. There were some unfortunate narrow losses.
· U12B rose to the top of their group, beating Brisbane City, MCE (3), and a draw with Taringa. They moved into the quarter finals and beat North Lakes. The semi-final came down to a penalty shoot-out as the game was drawn 1-1 with Wynnum Wolves and sadly, we lost on penalties.
All teams should be super proud of how far they got in this cup.
The Football Queensland Junior Cup is an invite only competition for the best teams in Qld, including regional areas. To be invited to these FQ tournaments is further recognition of SRFC’s continued growth and a great opportunity for our young footballers to play amongst the best teams in Qld. This tournament is also where players are observed by state selectors, with opportunities to advance into state development teams.
SRFC currently has three players on the FQ talent ID database (U13+), which is a significant step forward and demonstration of the capabilities we have coming through in our young players. SRFC was able to enter our U12 boys and U13 Girls over the 3-day event in the Sunshine Coast and we were up against Division 1 clubs. This gave us some context to our development journey.
· U12B beat 3 regional FQ select team squads on their first day, playing good football and showcasing some of the qualities they have in their link up play. They backed up these games up with playing Robina in a tough fought 0-0 draw. Both Robina and Samford finished undefeated in their group with Robina only coming first on goal difference. Unfortunately, the original format of the tournament was cancelled that afternoon due to terrible weather and pitch condition, with only the top team from each group progressing. This was a bit of a bitter end to miss out further advancement on goal difference, after such a great couple of days of strong football from the team.
· U13G team were on fire as well! 2 wins, 1 draw and one exceptionally narrow loss (freaky last kick of the game!!!) saw the girls knock off 2nd division teams to also finish second in their group stages, ready to progress against a division 1 team next and definitely up for the challenge, but again the weather got the better of the situation and the draw was changed.
During these games 2 of our U13G were further validated and identified by FQ talent scouts. This is amazing news for the girls and demonstrates the pathways SRFC is creating for our young talent coming through the club. It also highlights the importance of participating at these types of events as a club for all our players. They enable our players to perform in front of the right people for potential selection into our state teams and from there they can even reach into the Young Matildas and Joeys...! Congratulations to both Bec and Heike, both played great football, along with their whole team!
Winterfest is another invite only competition run by Football Queensland and where the SRFC U9B, 10B and 11B, and U11G all competed. This took place over 6 days in the Sunshine Coast. Some fantastic football was played from all our teams. It was pleasing to receive comments from opposition coaches and parents of “how good our team is” and “you play nice football”. It resonated with the capabilities of our players and the SRFC game model shining through across the teams. Truely wonderful to hear.
· Our U10B and U11B teams performed well. The highlight for our U11B team being a hard-fought draw with one of the best teams in Qld for the age groups in MCE. A tremendous effort and work rate shown by all players. They certainly stood up and matched MCE with their SRFC spirit.
· Our U10B were wonderful to watch as we saw their learnings from the training field being repeatedly demonstrated in matches. Especially pleasing was seeing the player positional rotations with players still being able to demonstrate the positional competencies throughout the matches. The lads won several games with some lovely football.
· Our composite Under 9 team (drawn together from three separate teams), played some football well beyond their years. The lads consistently outplayed every Division 1 team they came up against and demonstrated to all, they are truly now the team to be beat in all U9 competitions across the state.
· Our renowned U11G superstar girls proved again they are the #1 team in Qld for their age. They went through the whole tournament undefeated! Annihilating some division 1 teams in the process with some delightful tika taka football to again be crowned the Queens of Qld! This team is special, both with their on-field performances and off field team bond and unity.
The Football Queensland State Tournament held at Brendale, which again is an invite only competition where SRFC entered our U13 and U14 boys.
· Our U13'Bs (included several U12 players), did very well. Deserving of the 2-1 win against 3rd division Capalaba in their first game, again, proving the consistency and capabilities of our players through the ages. The team went onto run third in their group on goal difference, moving into the silver group stages where they went onto to finish top of their group and go into the silver cup grand final. They faced up against some FQA division 1 players and under 14’s so did exceptionally well, coming away with a narrow 1-0 loss.
· The U14B’s similarly faced division 3 opposition, and played some of the best football of any U14 team present. Our decision making and execution of their distribution was nothing but class. Lucas and Cobe dominated midfield, working with Finn and Matt to create some amazing team play, and refined finishing (Jonah bagging 5 goals) saw the boys finish top of their group, moving into the gold group play offs.
Our U14’s next games were hard fought battles, fatigue and injuries starting to really set in, going down to Ipswich and Robina, but showing SRFC spirit with some grit and perseverance. The conclusion of their final game at the tournament was 12 months of evolution, moving from third in the group, to top of the group and gold medal play offs, well done all round.
· Finally, over to Scarlet, who stepped into a FQ select team. She came on and demonstrated to all why she is there, tearing up the left-hand side with some beautiful combination play, individual explosiveness and an eye for goal, scoring 5 of the 9 team goals. Scarlet was on trial for a Qld team position and she most certainly did not disappoint. We will hear the outcomes from the scouts over the coming weeks with a hope that Scarlet gets to wear the Maroon jersey this September as Qld takes on NSW in the State of Origin (a prelude to the Nationals and emerging Matilda’s programs that start in Under 15’s), go Scarlet!!
Northstar FC Tournament
Finally back to the North Star tournament where our Under 12 boys represented the club (for what was their 3rd tournament of the holidays – amazing Rob and Laura for making this happen!). The lads finished equal top of the tournament but second on goal difference, again, a true testament to the depth of players Rob as built within this age group.
Our club continues build strong momentum, establishing a new baseline from which to move forward. These tournaments pave the way for our players to be on right platform showcasing what they can do and what Samford is about. With a strong pipeline of local players coming through,it is exciting to see where we can go from here!
